A  browser is an application (software) used for retrieving and presenting different resources on the Internet or local network (Intranet ). Internet resource may be a text file, video file or stream, image or combination of different formats combined on a single web page. Some browsers allow FTP access and data transfer. Each file in the internet has it's own unique name which is also called  Uniform Resource Identifier (URI).  Navigation between the web pages is provided by hyperlinks. Browsers are also used in private (corporate or sometimes home) networks to get access to files located in the local networks.
